A list of the top banks in Liechtenstein (2024)

Moving to Liechtenstein or planning to spend a lot of time there? Perhaps you’re starting a business, or working or studying there.

Opening a local bank account in Liechtenstein could be useful, especially if you’re working and need to get paid.

But which is the best bank to choose? Read on for a full list of the top banks in Liechtenstein, including info on the everyday banking accounts on offer at each.

But first, let’s begin with a quick look at how the banking sector works in Liechtenstein.

Banking in Liechtenstein (an overview)

For such a tiny country, Liechtenstein has a surprisingly large number of banks. This is because the microstate has become known as a private banking hub, with many institutions focusing on wealth management for high net worth individuals and businesses.

It is still possible to get an everyday current account there, although some banks may require you to have a minimum income or to make large, regular deposits

The good news though is that you should only need your passport, proof of address and proof of income to open an account in Liechtenstein.¹ Its banks are welcoming to applicants from all over the world.

Banks in Liechtenstein are likely to charge some fees for their current account services. Although it depends on the bank and account, you can expect to pay a monthly, quarterly or annual maintenance fee (sometimes called a balancing fee). You might also pay an annual fee for a debit card.
