I would like to start off by saying thank you to all the loyal subscribers to The Messenger KY, formerly “The Meade County Messenger.” In the first six months of being a publisher, we have accomplished so much in the form of not only branding, but also our content and digital integration. We have grown our online presence by over 60,000 views a month. Our social media presence has grown by over 1500 new followers. We continue to make improvements to, and updates to, the website daily.
The Messenger Studios are up and running and feature live content from elected officials, public offices, small businesses, and non-profits. The studio provides the capability of delivering a message with questions and answers that just cannot fit in the printed editions. It is a media that allows the viewer/listener the capability to experience a whole new level of understanding. With these technologies we hope to put you right in the middle of the action or at least put you closer to those who are making decisions and doing amazing things for our community.
The name of the paper changed so that we could bring back a community newspaper to our neighbors at Fort Knox and Radcliff. The Messenger KY allows for growth across the commonwealth for the future. You do not know what you had until it is gone. We now distribute 400 newspapers to six locations in Fort Knox. The stands have been emptied every time I restock, which is a great indication that a lot of people still love to have a newspaper. Some would say, “well there is already a newspaper in Radcliff, it is a daily newspaper.” I would say yes, but that is a daily newspaper, and everyday things get buried just like a social media feed. You would have to go back and read an entire paper to see what you missed.
With a weekly paper you can carry it around in your pocket or take it with you, and circle off things that interest you. Like, for instance: all the yard sales. Yard sale ads are only $10 dollars to post in the newspaper. We will also be setting up a location on the website for these as well. If you are a small business, we are also working a very low budget coupon section in the newspaper for you to entice traffic to your location. For the low price of $25 dollars a week you can have a 2x2 coupon ad in the newspaper. For an additional $10 you can also be added to the web site for the same period.
The ability for us to highlight our small businesses in a digital presence proves every day to be invaluable. With over 60,000 visitors to our website our digital ads have an extremely higher click rate in comparison to google display ads. This feature is proven to drive traffic to your business. In addition to advertising, we are growing our digital calendar and have newer capabilities. You do not need to contact us to advertise your event. You can simply go to our website and place your event online for the proposed digital fees.
For many of you we will also be moving the location of our website from www.meadecountyky.com to www.themessengerky.com when that transition occurs you will not need to contact us for an e-edition or a newspaper subscription you will be able to apply or renew online. Do not worry we will still be sending out mail reminders to our current subscribers, but we are very excited to see a lot of new readers. You will also want to pay attention to up and coming editions of the paper as we will begin putting a secret code in the print of the paper and you will need a decoder ring to cypher the answers. The plan is to lead readers in a contest to win a big prize and encourage younger readers to hold a newspaper again. The code should lead you to businesses or sites within the community that when put together put you in the running for the prize. It will be a scavenger hunt and you cannot win if you do not read the paper. Lastly, we have finalized our brand and have new swag at the office. If you like our hat design and would like to purchase one you can come to the office.
