This easy Single-Serving Sangria recipe is the perfect co*cktail all spring and summer long. That's why we call it Swimming Pool Sangria! It's mixed simply right in the wine glass.

How to mix up a delicious single serving sangria:

I use a medium-bodied red blend or a fruit-forward Zinfandel to make this co*cktail, because it doesn't have the benefit of hanging out in a pitcher with a bunch of fruit like traditional sangrias do. Merlot would also work well here. The flavors of both Merlot and Zinfandel blend well in recipes without fading into the background. You'll find the same wine selections in my Red Wine Hot Chocolate recipe, which I think you should definitely make in colder months. Just saying.

This single serving sangria only has one additional alcoholic ingredient, but you can make it your own:

You'll notice I'm not adding any additional liquor beyond the Grand Marnier. That's for two reasons: I like the taste of wine and I'm not trying to get gassed-out-of-my-mind on two of these. I've already told you my friends and I drink them in swimming pool. Safety first.

Could you use Triple Sec or another orange liqueur? Sure, although I think Grand Marnier adds a little something more since it's cognac-based. You can also squeeze all the juice of the orange in the glass and not throw the slice in. When I have lots of fresh berries, that's usually what I do.

A few more wine co*cktail ideas:

Then try these other awesomely easy wine co*cktails: Cranberry Rosé (3 ingredients!),Pineapple Rosemary Crush, & this Raspberry Port Sparkler on my friend Meg's website. I've written a few wine co*cktail recipes for California Wines over the years, and Meg took the photos. Best. Collaboration. Ever.

Give this single-serving sangria a try, and mix a glassful up for a friend too, swimming optional.

Ingredients

  • 1 orange
  • 6 - 8 ounces red wine I use a blend or Zinfandel
  • 1 ounce Grand Marnier
  • club soda or lemon-lime soda, if you like more sugar
  • ice
  • strawberry, mixed berries or other fruit garnish

Instructions

  • Fill a large wine glass or tumbler with ice.

  • Slice the orange in half, and then cut one slice off to drop into the co*cktail (you might need to cut the slice in half). Squeeze the juice from one of the orange halves over the ice, reserving the other half for your next co*cktail.

  • Add the wine to the juice and ice, and top the glass off with club soda. Give all that goodness a quick stir.

  • Top with a strawberry, a straw, and a relaxed attitude - any day with Swimming Pool Sangria is a good day.

Frequently Asked Questions about Single Serving Sangria:

How many ounces is one sangria?

One red sangria co*cktail is 10-12 ounces.

How can you make sangria in one glass?

Add ice, red wine, fruit + juice and Grand Marnier or Triple Sec. Stir, serve and enjoy!

What can I substitute for Triple Sec in sangria?

Grand Marnier is a substitute for Triple Sec. Our recipe actually calls for Grand Marnier instead because of the richer flavor.

Which red wine is best for sangria?

Use Zinfandel, Merlot or medium-bodied, fruit forward red blend. The flavors in the wine will blend well with the fruit without being overpowered.

What glass do you use for sangria?

A large wine glass, a tumbler or a pint glass will work well for sangria.

What do you need for one glass sangria?

Ice, red wine, fruit, and Grand Marnier or Triple Sec are the ingredients for a single sangria co*cktail.

What do you eat with sangria?

You can serve simple snacks, like a cheese plate or chips & guacamole with sangria. Other good pairings are spicy dishes, or recipes that pair citrus and spices. These Roasted Shrimp with Sweet Peppers or Prosciutto Wrapped Prunes would both be good pairings.
