The Ultimate Healthy Juicing Recipe for Pregnancy and Everyday | Simplicity Lane (2024)

One of the pieces of advice I read over and over again while pregnant was that it is essential to get your fruits & veggies in through eating a healthy, well-balanced diet. One of the ways I easily achieved this was by turning to my friendly juicer and creating a juicing recipe that suited me in that moment. This particular juicing recipe I created in order to get a big kick of vitamins in at once.

This is one of my favourite at-home juicing recipes that I have ever made. It has the perfect amount of sweetness, thanks to the carrots and the oranges, and the perfect kick to it, courtesy of the grapefruit and fresh ginger.

What is in this Juicing Recipe?

I tend to stick to a pretty simple juicing recipe that has only a handful ingredients, but this juicing recipe is loaded with Vitamin C and anti-inflammatory ingredients. What you need for this juicing recipe:

  • 1 large, ripe grapefruit
  • 1 medium orange
  • 5 medium carrots
  • 1 lemon
  • a generous chunk of fresh ginger, approximately 2 inches

How to Make this Juicing Recipe:

This is only a 3 step juicing recipe: prepare your fruits & vegetables, juice them and enjoy!

Step 1: Prepare Your Ingredients

You will want to remove the thick skin from the outside of the grapefruit, oranges and lemon. The white layer directly under the skin actually carries a significant amount of vitamins and benefits, so if you can try to keep that layer on when peeling your fruits.

For the carrots, wash thoroughly and then chop the ends off. There is no need to peel the carrots.

As for the ginger, you will want to peel this as well. This can be tricky at times, but using a small spoon as a peeler easily takes the harsh skin off.

Step 2: Place Cut Ingredients into Juicer

Cut all fruits into pieces small enough to fit into the juicer. Once this is complete, you are ready to juice!

Pop your ingredients into the juicer and watch it make a gorgeous, vibrant, healthy juice safe for pregnancy as well as everyday.

Step 3: Enjoy!

Once you’ve finished juicing all the fruits, give your juice a very good stir to mix in all the flavours.

I always keep my fruits in the fridge before I juice so the juice comes out cold, but feel free to add a few ice cubes to this juice to cool it down before enjoying.

HOT Juicing Tip:

When adding your fruits and vegetables to the recipes, start with the more solid ingredients. For this recipe, I recommend doing the carrots first followed by the ginger and then the citrus fruits.

Why Does it Matter?

Juicing the ginger is incredibly finicky. Fresh ginger contains a significant amount of liquid, however, it doesn’t always come out right away. By adding the citrus fruits to the juicer after the ginger, they help in pushing out any remaining ginger that may be stuck in your juicer as the citrus fruits are incredibly liquid-y and juicy.

How Much Juice will I get out?

The more fruits you use, especially citrus fruits, the more liquid you will get.

This recipe, by just using one medium size of each citrus fruit, will easily get you about 2 full cups of juice.

Juicer Recommendation:

Unsure what juicer to use? There are many on the market, I have been using this particular one. I like it because it is powerful, reasonable and easy to clean.

Ways to Modify this Juicing Recipe:

Want more juice? Double up the entire recipe.

Want the juice to be sweeter? Add another orange and 5 more carrots.

Want more kick? Add a second lemon & double up the size of the ginger you include. This will really kick up the healthy properties in this recipe, especially if you are feeling a bit run down.

Other Healthy & Simple Juicing Recipes:

I was conscious that I needed to get in a large amount of fruits & vegetables while pregnant. I did turn to my juicer to help me achieve this as a way to get lots of vitamins in at once and as a way to stay entertained and not feel like I was unjoyfully eating my greens just for the sake of it.

And not to mention – making a juice at home a couple times a week is much more wallet friendly than visiting your favourite juicery.
